Brewer Science Presents High-refractive-index Polymers with High Transparency at SPIE AR VR MR 2024

San Francisco, CA – January 29, 2024 – Brewer Science, Inc., a global leader in developing and manufacturing next-generation materials and processes for the microelectronics and optoelectronics industries, presents solutions to optical integration challenges at the SPIE AR VR MR 2024 Exhibition in San Francisco, California.

High-refractive-index polymeric coatings are critical in AR and VR applications

Advanced photonic devices, including light-emitting diodes (LEDs), waveguide and complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) image sensors (CIS), are increasingly integrated into traditional applications to enhance performance and are pivotal for the evolution of augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The expanding array of applications propels this technology toward heightened performance, demanding more advanced materials and processes for its realization.

High-refractive-index (HRI) polymeric coatings are being explored as promising alternatives to traditional inorganic thin films for many reasons, including:

  • Improved Optical Properties and Transparency
  • Increased Flexibility
  • Reducing Manufacturing Costs

Presentation provides comprehensive overview of important material considerations

Dr. Wang will present comprehensive research findings, including optical properties, thermal stability, and photo-imageability of three polymer platforms that demonstrate both a high refractive index (1.6-1.8) and exceptional transparency (>98%). The presentation will also include an overview of compatibility with common processing solvents such as PGMEA, PGME, and acetone. An extended high-temperature baking study revealed the thermal and optical stability of the HRI polymer coatings, with less than 5% film thickness loss and less than 1% change in optical properties.

High-refractive-index Polymers with High Transparency presented by Dr. Wang of Brewer Science, is scheduled for January 29th, 2024 at 5:30pm PST in the Moscone Center Lobby (Level 3 West) at SPIE AR VR MR. Please view the SPIE event page for additional conference information.
